What we do

• Inspire

  As an independent non-profit, the Purpose Foundation educates the public about steward ownership – how it works, its history and legal forms, and what it means for people, planet and society – and makes this knowledge freely and openly available. We operate in collaboration with the broader ecosystem and constantly identify leverage points to make the concept known and accessible wherever possible: at universities, in public discourse, and among key stakeholders. Today, the concept is better known, but there is still a long journey ahead – and we are passionate about operating at the heart of this globally growing movement.

• Research

  We help generate knowledge and insights to strengthen the movement, studying the impact of steward ownership, finding concrete solutions, sharing guidance and connecting the field. By making open research accessible and producing case studies, we support entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers, legal experts, and other stakeholders in understanding the benefits and best practices of steward ownership. We bridge research and practice, leveraging our deep, long-standing experience and the extensive network around the pioneers of steward ownership.

• Education

  To meet growing demand, we provide practical tools, publications, and networks for entrepreneurs, companies, investors, academics, lawyers and other stakeholders. We work across jurisdictions to find legal solutions and guide the implementation of steward ownership. We also partner with like-minded organizations and institutions building a global network of aligned organizations, investors, legal experts, and universitites aducating on and spreading the word around steward ownership internationally.

• Ecosystem

  None of this would be possible without the forerunners – the companies, entrepreneurs, and investors who navigate partly uncharted territory and systemic challenges to implement steward ownership. They are supported by brilliant lawyers, tax consultants, employees, researchers, legislators, thought leaders, changemakers, and regional partners who contribute to the movement every day. Together, we make steward ownership tangible, practical, and increasingly known and accessible.
