Founded in Stuttgart, Germany, in 2019, the startup Fryd offers a digital gardening tool for hobby gardeners with the goal to enable everyone to grow their own organic vegetables. By using the community-based app, gardeners can plan and organize their own vegetable cultivation using personal seasonal calendars, bed planning tools and a large plant database. The Fryd-app offers guidance and support through every step of the way – from planning to harvest. Users can hereby benefit from the community in sharing questions and insights, allowing everyone to enjoy gardening as a shared experience and fostering awareness and knowledge about food and cultivation cycles as well as sustainable consumer behavior in a community.

In order to safeguard Fryd’s mission in the long term and to ensure that the company is not structured with an exit-oriented focus, the startup’s founders decided to raise steward-ownership aligned capital and implemented their seed financing round by means of subordinated loans. Purpose Ventures is one of Fryd’s investment partners.

Fryd helps people to grow their own vegetables. Our team and our community work together every day on this mission, not on an exit. And we want to keep it that way.
